Insert key
deri.vvre runs on Google's Gemini, under a free key that belongs to you.
Your key works
Kept for this visit only.
Where your paper goes
Your browser sends the paper to Google under your key. This site has no server: your paper and your key are never sent to it. Unless you choose to remember it, your key is gone once you close the tab.
What Google may see
On Google's free tier, Google uses what you send to improve its products, and people at Google may review it. Google's terms say not to send sensitive, confidential or personal information, so avoid papers containing personal data, and keep personal details out of what you ask in Zoom in.
Keeping it free
If your key's project has no billing linked, you can't be charged. If you already use Google Cloud, check that first: your project may already have billing. If it does, set a monthly spending cap in AI Studio before you start. Google says the cap can lag about ten minutes behind use, and you pay anything spent in that gap.
In the UK, the EEA and Switzerland, Google's terms require the paid tier for apps like this one, so use a key on a project with billing turned on.
Cookies and terms
No cookies, no accounts, no tracking.
Using deri.vvre means you agree to the privacy note, which covers storage, cookies and terms of use in full.
Getting a key
Three steps in Google AI Studio. Keep this tab open.
Open Google AI Studio
Sign in with any Google account. Google requires you to be 18 or over. A new tab opens; come back here when you're done.
Open AI Studio ↗Accept Google's terms
AI Studio then creates a project and a key for you, with nothing else to set up.
New keys start on the free tier, with no billing attached. In the UK, the EEA and Switzerland, you'll need to turn billing on for this app.
Copy the key
Treat it like a password: anyone holding it can use your quota. Next, you'll paste it in.
Upload a paper
Choose how you'd like it read, then drop in the PDF.
Which files work?
- PDF only. Word, Pages or a web page? Save or print it as a PDF first.
- Scanned pages can’t be read yet: the app reads a PDF’s text layer, and a scan has none. A later build adds them.
- Password-protected PDFs can't be read. Remove the password first.
- Up to 20 MB per file.
- One paper at a time. It can't compare papers or pool their results, as a meta-analysis does. A meta-analysis you upload is read like any other paper.
- Text only. It reads the PDF's text, so charts, figures and anything printed as a picture aren't seen.
- Up to 100 pages, or about 150,000 characters. Anything after that is left out, and the result says so.
- Quotes are checked, not guaranteed. Each quote is checked against the page it cites; one it can't find there is marked Not found, so check it before you use it. It won't draw a diagram for a paper with no structure.
- A guide, not a replacement. Gemini can be wrong. The summary, analogy and diagram simplify the paper; check what matters against the paper itself.

Privacy note
Last updated 11 October 2026
The short version. deri.vvre has no accounts, no cookies and no analytics. Your paper and your key go from your browser straight to Google. The only things kept are your settings, your latest derivation, and your key if you ask, in your own browser. If you rate a derivation or leave a comment, only that rating and comment come to us.
Who runs deri.vvre
deri.vvre is made by Bryan Choo. It is not made by, endorsed by or affiliated with Google; Gemini is Google's trademark. Questions about this note: me@bryanjeis.me.
What deri.vvre collects
Only feedback you choose to give. There are no accounts, sign-ups, analytics or tracking. deri.vvre never receives your paper, your derivation or your key.
Feedback
Under each derivation you can rate it Bad, OK or Good and add a comment. Your rating is sent when you pick it; a comment is sent only when you press Send. Nothing else goes with them: not your paper, your derivation, your key or your name. Netlify, the site's host, stores them for us, and may record the same basic technical details as when the page loads. Please don't put personal information in a comment. Feedback is used only to improve deri.vvre, and you can ask for yours to be deleted at the address above.
Cookies and storage on your device
deri.vvre sets no cookies. It uses your browser's own storage for three things, all kept on your device only and never sent to us:
- Your key, only if you switch on "Remember on this device".
- Your settings: appearance, font, text size, motion, reading level and depth, the model you chose, and which result sections you've hidden.
- Your latest derivation, held in this browser tab only, so reloading the page doesn't lose it. It includes the paper's file name and short quotes from it, but not the paper itself. It goes when you close the tab, or when you start a new paper.
A remembered key is stored unencrypted in your browser, so anything with access to this browser, such as an extension, could read it. To remove it, use Settings → Forget key, or clear this site's data in your browser. Forgetting the key here does not cancel it: to do that, delete the key in Google AI Studio.
What goes to Google
When you check a key, your browser sends only the key. When you read a paper, it sends your key and the paper's text, as read from the PDF in your browser, directly to Google's Gemini API. Each part of a derivation is a separate request, so the text is sent several times; the glossary request sends the derivation's own text instead. The key travels in the request itself, never in the web address. Google may process this outside your country. Google handles it under its own Gemini API terms and privacy policy.
On Google's free tier, Google uses what you send to improve its products, and people at Google may review it. Google's terms say not to send sensitive, confidential or personal information. In the UK, the EEA and Switzerland, Google's terms require the paid tier for apps like this one, so use a key on a project with billing turned on.
The website host
The site is served by Netlify. Like any web host, Netlify may record basic technical details when the page loads, such as your IP address and browser type. deri.vvre does not use them and does not switch on Netlify's analytics. Everything the page needs, including its fonts and code, comes from the same site. Apart from Google, when you check a key or read a paper, and Netlify, when you send feedback, the page contacts no other service.
Costs
Your Google account and any charges on it are yours. If your key's project has no billing linked, you can't be charged. If it has billing, set a spending cap in AI Studio; Google says the cap can lag about ten minutes behind use.
Accuracy
Derivations are written by AI and can be wrong, including page numbers and quotes. When a quote is marked as found in the paper, the same words (or nearly, where it says "with small differences") are in the PDF's text, the layer a computer reads; words hidden in a PDF can pass this check. Check anything that matters against the paper itself. Nothing here is professional, legal, medical or financial advice.
Your papers
Only upload papers you're entitled to share with a third-party service such as Google, and avoid papers containing other people's personal data.
If your key leaks
If you think someone else has your key, for example after using it on a shared computer, delete it in Google AI Studio and make a new one.
Using deri.vvre
Google requires you to be 18 or over to use its Gemini API. By using deri.vvre, you agree to this note, and to Google's terms for your key. If you don't agree, please don't use it. deri.vvre is provided as it is, without any warranty.
